Should You Take a Break from Your Job Search for The Holidays?

The holidays are here, and with Christmas quickly approaching, those who are wading through a job search could be tempted to throw in the towel until after the New Year. We understand that it’s easy to burn out when you’re looking for employment, especially around the Christmas season when it might feel as if nothing is working out. However, we have some insider suggestions that might convince you to rethink taking a break from the job hunt this year. Keep these things in mind when you’re tempted to take it easy this month…
  1. Employers ARE hiring. While it might seem as if everything is already solidified within many companies and the openings are few and far between, there are actually more employers hiring at this time of year than you might realize. Many are in need of extra hands to help them push through end-of-year quotas or obligations, while others are simply trying to find a new employee so they can get paperwork in order before the end of the tax year. Whatever the reason, companies ARE hiring during the weeks leading up to Christmas.
  2. Less competition means higher chances for you. Many other employees fall into the trap of forgoing their job hunt during the holidays, meaning the competition drops off sharply for a few weeks. Why not take advantage of that? If you continue hitting the trail hard, you stand a much higher chance of getting your resume on the desk of a potential employer and getting hired for the job, solely because you stuck with your search instead of postponing until after the Christmas season.
  3. You can take advantage of employee benefits. While you might not have immediate benefits packages at your disposal as a new employee, if you get hired with a retail or service-related position, you could receive discounts and/or free goods as part of your new position. That can come in handy during the holiday season when you have to provide gifts for others, and/or might want to treat yourself!
