Healthy Summer Treats: Give Yourself a Boost While Working from Home


While many businesses in Florida are reopening to some capacity, others are continuing to practice caution and are having their employees work from home for the foreseeable future. While working from home seemed like a vacation to you before, if you’re one of the many Americans who have been stuck in a home office for the last three months, you’re probably feeling the drain of the same four walls day to day, the lack of sunshine and fresh air from being out and about, and the energy boost that comes from interacting with others and enjoying activities. While you can’t necessarily control some of these circumstances, when it comes to your health and mental well-being, you can certainly offer yourself a boost! These healthy summer treats will make you feel like you’re getting something “fun” while offering benefits for your body and mind. Enjoy one when you get off work as a pat on the back for a job well done, or have one while in front of your computer to make the day go by a little faster. 
Perfectly Healthy PopsiclesDo you love the nostalgia that comes with your favorite childhood popsicles but don’t want the artificial flavors, dyes, or sugars that they come with? Simply take your favorite fruit (or blend a few together) and throw it into the food processor with a little bit of water, milk, or fruit juice (depending on what you want your final product to be) and you have the perfect mix for your own popsicles. If you want a classic look, you can purchase actual popsicle molds online or at many local stores, but if you want something cheap and easy, you can use paper cups with basic popsicle sticks. Once frozen, peel off the paper cup and you’re ready to enjoy! Some of our favorite blends are strawberries blended with milk and frozen (strawberries and cream!), mango and pineapple blended with orange juice, or a mixture of melons. No matter what flavors you choose, you can count on something cold and delicious that offers a boost of vitamins with none of the bad stuff. 
Chick-Pea “Chips”Want something poppable like chips, but healthier for your body? Chick peas can be dried off, tossed in oil, and roasted until they get crispy and crunchy. Once baked, toss them with a little bit of salt and pepper, or spice things up with BBQ seasoning, taco seasoning, ranch seasoning, or any other favorite blend of flavors that you enjoy. Not only are they tasty but they offer a protein packed snack without the fat and grease of traditional chips. 
Frozen Lemonade (or Limeade)This one doesn’t require much alteration to be healthy! Lemonade when made with real lemons offers a boost of Vitamin C (great for your immune health!) and is the essence of summer flavors. However, many lemonade recipes call for abhorrent amounts of sugar to offset the tartness of the lemons. By making a “simple syrup” with hot water and honey, and then cooling it to room temperature before mixing it with your lemon juice and water, you can make your lemonade healthier without losing the sweetness you crave. Pour yourself a tall cold glass and sip it on your back patio for the perfect ending to a long week.
