Make Yourself Marketable: Increasing Your Chances of Being Hired

When hunting for a new job, and attempting to kickstart your career, it can be easy to become discouraged when you see 50 applicants just like you all gunning for the same position.  Over time, you start to wonder if you’ll ever be hired since you don’t stand out from the crowd, and are never the one chosen for the final interview after all your hard work.  At PHR Staffing Solutions, we have seen many applicants come and go, and we have noticed a few key things that help set successful applicants apart from the rest.  One of the biggest factors in standing out from the crowd?  Your qualifications and continued education.

Having a degree doesn’t automatically guarantee a job in today’s working world.  There are usually many more applicants than there are job openings, and often, multiple applicants will have the same degree.  When this happens, your individual certifications, trainings, and chosen extracurricular activities can play a part in getting you the job.  What are some things a potential employer might look for?

  • Language Courses.  Bilingual (or multilingual) applicants are a hot commodity, especially here in Central Florida.  Thanks to our diverse community with many nationalities represented, the need for secondary languages both understood and spoken is key in many offices today.  If you have taken any number of courses in Spanish, French, Chinese, or another language, you could stand out from the crowd.  If you are fluent in any of these languages, your chances of being hired increase even more.
  • Community Involvement.  If you have spent any time serving your community through volunteer efforts, this can brighten your resume and make an HR team give you a second glance.  Often these community service events have you rubbing elbows with big names in your city, or at the very least, show that you are someone who cares about your city and the people in it.  Taking your free time to serve others is a great way to show a potential boss that you are a team player.
  • Field-Specific Training.  Workshops, certification classes, and even seminars are great ways to enhance your existing degree and further your learning in your specific field.  If you can document these efforts and include them in your resume, it shows interviewers that you have the desire to keep learning and bettering yourself in your career and THAT makes you a desirable hire.

If you’re ready to get hired, look no further than PHR Staffing Solutions.  We will work with you to find positions that fit your skills, your qualifications, and your needs.  Our goal is to help you meet your goals, and since we work with businesses throughout the Polk County area here in Central Florida, you know you are getting the very best opportunities.  Give us a call or apply for one of our current openings online.
