What’s Happening Around Lakeland: Memorial Day 2017

Whether you’re an employer, a full-time employee, or a temporary or part-time staff member, chances are you are looking forward to a 3-day weekend thanks to Memorial Day on Monday.  We recognize the sacrifice that this day symbolizes, and we thank those who have served our country in the past and are currently serving today.  As you prepare for an extra day off of work this week, you may be planning to celebrate with a family picnic, a neighborhood BBQ party, or a trip to the beach. However, if you have no plans and are looking for something fun to do with your family (or on your own!), Lakeland has plenty going on this weekend to keep you busy and having a good time.

Here’s what’s happening in and around Lakeland for Memorial Day 2017:

Saturday Farmer’s Market in Downtown Lakeland

Head downtown on May 27th from 8 AM to 2 PM for the Farmer’s Market.  Fresh local produce, herbs, plants, handmade goods, and items by various artisans and vendors are all available for purchase!  Shop local and enjoy our beautiful city while doing it!

Saturdays at Spence

The City of Mulberry hosts their free, themed monthly event, Saturdays at Spence, on May 27th from 5-7 PM.  There will be plenty of entertainment for the whole family with live music, face painting, popcorn, carnival games, and more!  Head to Spence Park to join in on the fun.

Sensational Sunday at Family Fun Center

For families of children with special needs, the Family Fun Center of Lakeland hosts their monthly “Sensational Sundays”. The Funtasia playground will be open 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM only for these families, and the lights and sounds will be low to aid in lessening the sensory overload,  Your pass includes the option to stay and play all day, but the rest of the facility will open as usual starting at 12 PM.

Memorial Day Carillon Concert

Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales is hosting their Carillon Concert at 1 and 3 PM on Monday, May 29th.  Active military, retired veterans, honorably discharged military, and disabled veterans will receive free admission with valid ID.  The performance will be a musical salute of gratitude to our veterans and armed forces of the US.

We hope you will come out and support your local community this Memorial Day weekend.  Life can’t be all work and no play, after all.  Currently unemployed or underemployed?  When you are ready to pick back up your job hunt on Tuesday, start with PHR Staffing Solutions.  We handle staffing and recruiting for employers throughout the greater Polk County area here in Central Florida, and we are ready to help you find the perfect position.  Give us a call to get started, or apply for one of our current openings here on our site.
