Job Description

Employee will be responsible for driving truck along scheduled route to make pickups and/or deliveries to various locations. Must operate the truck in compliance with established company standards and state driving regulations. Job will include lifting, carrying, loading/unloading a variety of cargo (furniture, appliances, boxed items, etc.). Employee must ensure the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and donations at all times. Additional responsibilities could include assistance in performing basic duties in a warehouse environment. Working conditions will include driving a vehicle daily, with exposure to the outdoors where there are physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, heat, or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, etc.

Specific responsibilities could include but are not limited to:

  • Confer regularly with a scheduler to maintain awareness of scheduled pickups in accordance with established policies
  • Review scheduled pickups to ensure they are scheduled for correct days of the week and geographical location
  • Organize scheduled pickups by the most direct routes to save time and fuel consumption
  • Assist truck helper in lifting and stacking items in truck
  • Prepare receipts with accuracy and completeness
  • Maintain good relationships with all contacts during pickups and deliveries, promoting a favorable image of the company
  • Assist in unloading truck upon arrival at destination
  • Ensure truck meets scheduled maintenance and performs operators maintenance in accordance with established standards
  • Drive carefully and observe all traffic signs/ road/weather conditions, etc. to ensure safety of passengers and other motorists
  • Park truck in safe and clearly marked spaces
  • Lock vehicle doors when not in use
  • Fuel vehicle in accordance with state gasoline regulations and company standards
  • Log all mileage on standard forms, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Arrive at destinations on time, and be proactive about scheduling / telephoning ahead when severe delays occur
  • Assist in cleaning / maintaining loading dock area, and warehouse spaces
  • Perform special projects as needed
  • Other duties as required


  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred but not required
  • One-year experience driving heavy-duty truck and/or large van OR
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Must have valid state driver’s license with CDL endorsement (if required)
  • Must have knowledge of the assigned geographical area
  • Must have knowledge of DOT regulations
  • Must be able to organize pick-up tickets and schedule route in a manner that saves time and gasoline consumption
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with coworkers
  • Ability to maintain driving ability, DOT certifications, and company insurance qualifications
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language
  • Ability to read and follow a map and/or hand-written directions
  • Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects up to 50 lb. regularly and greater than 50 lb. occasionally
  • Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing
  • Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck
