Job Description

This job will involve assisting contractors and other individuals with clerical and administrative work related to building permits, local standards and codes, inspections, and other paperwork needed during the construction process. The job will require performing a variety of routine clerical, administrative, and technical work in processing paperwork, keeping records, etc.

Tasks will include, but are not limited to:

  • assisting with completing applications and paperwork for individuals and contractors
  • advising customers by phone and in person on the paperwork needed and how it relates to their project
  • notifying other related businesses and entities with updates regarding various construction projects
  • entering and updating information on the computer (creating and maintaining registries)
  • maintaining accurate and timely records
  • assuring that policies and procedures are followed
  • coordinating with other leadership during various projects
  • assisting with scheduling of other service providers needed by clients during projects

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • must have a high school diploma (or GED equivalent)
  • Two (2) years of post-secondary college or technical training in land use, urban planning, architecture, administration, building technology, or closely related field
  • Two (2) years of experience in general office procedures or related field

OR

  • any equivalent combination of education and experience

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • knowledge of building codes and development
  • knowledge of building administration
  • understanding of codes and regulations related to land use and construction
  • knowledge of both manual and computerized record keeping
  • skilled in operation of tools and equipment
  • ability to establish effective working relationships contractors, developers, architects, engineers, owners, and the general public
  • ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing)
  • ability to work under stressful conditions with frequent interruptions
