How to Be A Successful Networker

In today’s work force, networking is a key term used liberally, but if you aren’t familiar with what it actually means, you could be missing out on valuable career opportunities for your business. Networking is essentially connecting with other businesses owners as well as community figures (those in leadership or key roles) on levels such as involvement in your town or community, charity events, etc.  By making these connections, you familiarize yourself with those who could help grow your business over time with their referrals and mentions of your company’s name.

Here in Polk County, there are a variety of ways for business owners to network with one another. Some of our favorites at PHR are…

  • The Lakeland Chamber of Commerce and the Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce.  We have offices in each of these cities, and therefore are members of each chamber.  Being part of the local chamber of commerce is vital to making connections with other business owners, and that can make a huge difference in the success of your business over a long period of time.
  • Community-Centered Events.  Local events that give back to the community are a great way to get your name out there with like-minded business owners as well as potential employees within your city.  Here in Polk County, a favorite of ours is the Imperial Symphony Orchestra.  They give back to our community with scholarship programs for kids interested in music as a career, and they also offer beautifully crafted entertainment for patrons.  Attending their local events is a great way to support the orchestra, and in a roundabout way, support kids in our community.
  • Offer Your Time and Resources.  Giving back to charities and non-profits in your area, both with your money and your time as a volunteer, is a wonderful way to spread knowledge of your business in your town.  Consider sponsoring an event put on by one of these charitable organizations, or sign up with one of their volunteer programs on a free weekend.  Other ways to give back include participating (as a business) in their toy drives, food drives, etc. throughout the year.  You are not only helping those in need, but you are also being a “team player” in your city, and that will make people respect you AND your business.

The best way to gain respect in any area is by having high-quality staff from the ground up.  If your business is ready to grow its employee base, or if you are looking for applicants to fill a specific position in your business, look no further than PHR Staffing Solutions.  We provide top-quality candidates for businesses throughout the greater Polk County area, and we can help you find exactly what you need.
