Here on the PHR Staffing Solutions blog, we have posted about various career fairs, and our participation in them, and we’ve explained how important these events are to both our business, and to local candidates searching for the perfect job. This past Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 15th and 16th, we were privileged to partner with Career Source Polk for job fairs open to local applicants from the greater Winter Haven and Lakeland areas. Job fairs and recruiting events like these are important to us, because as a local business, we feel it’s important to hire local as much as possible. Our own friends, neighbors, and fellow Polk County residents deserve the chance to have jobs that meet their needs, and by holding events like those this past week, we give them that opportunity.
Over the two days of recruiting, PHR Staffing Solutions interviewed over 60 candidates for various openings for which we are currently hiring. Every time we attend events such as these, we are reminded of some helpful tips for applicants to keep in mind, whether they’re heading into a career expo setting, or a position-specific interview. If you are in the job application and interview process, remember:
- have a well-written and concise resume ready for each interview. If attending a career expo where you will be chatting with multiple recruiters, bring several copies.
- be well-groomed, and dressed in interview-appropriate attire. This means, at the very least, business-casual wear unless otherwise specified. Think slacks, a button-up style shirt (or for women, a blouse), etc.
- be confident and well-mannered. A firm handshake, eye contact, and good conversation skills go a long way in a job interview.
- arrive ON TIME, or preferably, early.
